This is such an irritating and unsolved problem. It happens on my wife's machine but not on mine - both printing via Airport Express connected USB to printer. My MacBookPro never has the issue but both my wife's recent IMac 27' and her previous old iMac did this. I've updated the driver but it still does it. When I upgraded to the new driver I did not realise that you have to delete the printer in settings and re-set it up.

At first it was still showing old driver version. Now it is the new one and it HAS SOLVED the problem! I have been using El Capitan for some time, but this just started happening. I believe one of the Apple updates caused this problem. The other suggestions of changing network printer settings or updating drivers had no effect. With help from Okidata customer support (whom I found very helpful), I chose a different driver.

That is, go to preferences/printer and delete your printer. When adding it back, do not choose auto-select for 'use,' i.e. Highlight the printer, 'use' window now available, choose to select the driver, then choose a driver similar to yours. In my case with a C6150, I selected C610.
