BOYS RESULTS Class 7A North Sub-State at Canebrake Golf Club, Athens: Mountain Brook won the team title with a 286 total. Vestavia Hills was second at 289, Hewitt-Trussville, third at 299 and Sparkman was fourth with a 347 team score.

The Spartans were led by Reynolds Lambert’s 3-under 69. He led the All-Tournament team selections that also included Ryan Eshleman of Vestavia Hills (70), Ford Clegg of Mountain Brook (71), Austin Coggin of Vestavia (72) and Mountain Brook’s William Wann (72). Individual qualifiers for the AHSAA State Golf Tournament next week at RTJ Auburn National Golf Club were Mac Reed of Mountain Brook and Reed Love of Hewitt-Trussville.

Class 6A North Sub-State at Cypress Lakes Golf Course, Muscle Shoals: Hunter Battles shot a 2-under 70 and teammate Brant Bishop fired even par 72 to lead Muscle Shoals to the sub-state tournament championship. The Trojans shot a even-par 288 as a team with Noah Olive and Sam Gargis each shooting 1-over 73 to round out the top four scorers. Northridge finished second at 302 with Luke Shaw shooting 71 and Matthew Madden 72 for the runner-up team.

Class 5A South Sub-State at Troy CC: St. Paul’s Episcopal captured first place with a 303 and Briarwood Christian was second at 327. Both advance to the state tourney as the sub-state team qualifiers.William McFadden’s 72 led the winning Bulldogs and earned him low medalist honors. Teammate David Bahos also shot 76. Individual qualifiers included Brantley Scott of Rehobeth, who scored a 3-over 75, and Central-Clay County’s David Sanford, who finished with a 78.

Class 5A North Sub-State at Goose Pond Colony Golf Club, Scottsboro: Guntersville’s boys shot a low round 311 to win the sub-state title and capture a berth in the AHSAA State Championships at Auburn Gran National at Opelika May 15-16. Russellville was four strokes behind at 315 to capture runner-up and the second team berth in the state tourney. Low medalist honors went to Douglas’s Anthony Lumpkin, who shot a 2-ujnder 70.

Scottsboro’s Jon Brady Sandlin was one shot back to finish second. Both qualified as individuals for the state tourney. Other solid rounds were turned in by Paul Bruce of Gunterville, who shot even par 72, and Etowah’s Tee Brown, who finished 1-over 73.

Even par 72 and Tee Brown of Etowah High School with a 1 over 73. Class 4A South Sub-State at Arrowhead CC, Montgomery: UMS-Wright won the sub-state with a 297 team total. Haleyville was second at 317, followed by Trinity Presbyterian (320) and Saint James (322).

UMS teammates J.P. Cave and Andrew Graves each shot 72 for the low round. Felix Ronderos, also of UMS-Wright, was next at 74, followed by Bulldogs teammate Gregory Jones and Alabama Christian’s Dawson Popwell at 75. The top two teams advance to the state tourney. The top two individual qualifiers, Popwell and Montgomery Catholic’s G Grant Smith (76) also qualified for the state tourney. Class 3A South Sub-State at Arrowhead CC, Montgomery: Providence Christian posted a 300 team total and Houston Academy shot 301 as both teams finished 1-2 in the Sub-State tourney to qualify for next week’s AHSAA state tournament. Hal Dove of Houston Academy shot a 4-under 68 to lead all scorers.

Thomas Ponder led Providence with even-par 72. Morrison also shot 74 for PCA. Varum Yerramsetti (71) and Pete Schilli (73) of Indian Springs also qualified for the state as individual qualifiers. North Class 3A Sub-State at Silver Lakes, Glencoe: West Morgan captured the top spot with a 326 team total.

Runner-up Lauderdale County was 10 strokes back at 336. West Morgan’s Dakota Terry and Clements’ Matt Smith each shot a 74. Terry won low medalist in a playoff. Smith was one of two individuals outside the top two teams to qualify for the state tourney. Geraldine’s Logan Forrester fired a 76 to earn the other individual qualifying berth. Wyatt Smith also shot 80 for West Morgan, and Josh Darracott had an 80 to lead Lauderdale County.

South Class 1A/2A Sub-State at Highland Park, Birmingham: St. Luke’s Episcopal shot a 302 and Altamont was second 41 strokes back at 343. Both teams qualified for the state tourney. Jacob Wiginton of Shades Mountain Christian shot a 73 to claim one of two individual qualifying spots. Kinston’s Dylan Moulton shot 75 for the second spot. Adam Ikner of J.U.

Blacksher was third at 76. North Class 1A/2A Sub-State at Gadsden CC: Westbrook Christian, led by John Hilliard’s 4-under 68 and William Wethington’s 1-over 73, posted the top team score (299) to win the competition. Runner-up Donoho was 10 shots back at 309. Both qualified for the state tourney.

Jack Svenson fired a 71 for Donoho. Ike Alexander of Mars Hill Bible and Cody Maddox of Marion County qualified as the two low individuals with rounds of 68 and 70, respectively. Alexander earned low medalist honors. GIRLS RESULTS GIRLS Class 6A North Sub-State at Cypress Lakes Golf Course, Muscle Shoals: Northridge shot 254 to take first place. Ally Williams of Athens carded 3-over 75 to earn low medalist honors. Kate Macvicar of Northridge shot 77 and her sister Caroline Macvicar shot 79 to finished second and third. Mikayla Dubnik of Hartselle joined Williams as individual qualifiers shooting an 82. Class 6A Sub-State at Timber Creek Golf Club, Spanish Fort: Spanish Fort posted a 271 total to claim first place and Daphne shot 295 to finish second. Letitia Sim paced the Lady Toros with an 87 and Amelia Bjuro shot 90. Jordyn Hodgson carded a 76, second best round of the day, to lead Daphne.

Low medalist and an individual qualifier was Brooke Samson of Park Crossing, who shot even par-72. Oxford’s Kayla Huckeba also qualified as an individual with an 81. Class 4A/5A South Sub-State at Troy CC: UMS-Wright won the sub-state tourney with a 248 team score. Trinity Presbyterian was second at 255.

Erika Allen and Karlee Allen of Northside carded 1-under 71 and 76, respectively, to claim the individual qualifying spots. Lauren Gilchrist's 71 led the winning Bulldogs.

She won a one-hole shootout with Allen to earn low medalist honors. Trinity senior Sophie Burks shot 73 to lead the Wildcats. Leeds’ Robyn Blakey was and Hannah Dyer of White Plains shot 78. Stevens and Blakey qualified as individuals for the state tourney. Arab’s top performance was turned in by Grace Harrell, who shot 79. Class 1A/3A at Arrowhead CC, Montgomery: Providence Christian’s Allison Howard shot 3-over 75 to earn low medalist honors and lead her team to the sub-state championship.

Bayside Academy was second at 264. Both teams advance to the state championships at Auburn Grand National May 15-16. American Christian’s Stephanie Fowler was two strokes behind Howard at 77 to earn one of two individual qualifier positions in the state tourney. Jones Hampton Cove Golf Course at Huntsville. Fairhope was second 14 strokes back at 585, followed by Auburn (590) and Vestavia Hills (596). The championship was the seventh for the Jaguars in school history. Vestavia freshman Austin Coggin recorded his second straight 2-under 70 to claim low medalist honors in the big-school completion with a 36-hole 140. Landon Carner of Spain Park and Addison Nix of Auburn finished one shot back at 141. Carner had the low round in 7A Tuesday shooting a 3-under 69.

Sophomore Kyle Cornelius shot an AHSAA state tournament record 9-under 63 Tuesday for the tournament’s low round and helped St. Paul’s Episcopal shoot even par for the day en route to the 5A crown. Huntsville eighth grader Michaela Morard shot a 2-under 70 Tuesday to finish at 138, just one stroke off her record-tying total of 2015 as she claimed her second straight low medalist honors in the girls’ big-school (6A-7A) division.

The Lady Panthers shot a 226 Tuesday to finish 13 strokes over par at 445 and won their first state girls’ crown. Emily Lankford shot 6-over 78 and finished second behind her teammate in second place individually. Savannah Johnson also carded a 78 and finished at 157 over 36 holes to round out the Huntsville scoring. Defending 6A/7A state champion Hoover was second at 452 with Spain Park (469) and Athens (484) closing out at 3 and 4. Others boys’ team winners were Providence Christian (1A/2A), Westbrook Christian (3A), UMS-Wright (4A), St.

Paul’s Episcopal (5A) and Homewood (6A). White Plains won the 4A/5A girls’ championship for the second year in a row. Westbrook Christian won the 1A/3A girls’ division to give the Warriors a sweep for boys and girls. CLASS 6A BOYS Jack Poole and Jack Goldasich each shot even-par 72 Tuesday to spark Homewood to the Class 6A state championship.

The Patriots of Coach Keat Litton had a two-day team total of 591 – 15 strokes over par. Homewood was just five over on Tuesday as Connor Doyal and Ben Harris shot 74 and 75, respectively, to round out the final round. Spanish Fort finished second just two shots back at 593.

John Carroll Catholic was third at 615 and Chilton County, fourth with 660. Senior Charles Wood of Spanish Fort closed strong with at 2-under 70 and first-day leader senior Matt Lorenz of Gulf Shores shot a 73 as both finished tied for low medalist in 6A honors at 2-under 142 for the 36 holes. John Snoddy of John Carroll Catholic had the best round of the 6A competition Tuesday coming in at 4-under 68 to finish at 145. Northview’s Christopher Owens and Cullman’s Luke Wilson had round of 70 and 72, respectively, to finish tied for third one shot back at 143. CLASS 5A BOYS St. Paul’s Episcopal, coached by Sandy Santoli, shot even-par 288 for the low round team-wise for the day and captured the 5A boys’ title with a 7-undrr 583. Russellville was second at 604 with Guntersville (629) and Central of Clay County (650) finishing 3-4.

Sophomore Kyle Cornelius rebounded from an 84 Monday to shoot a 63 – the best round in state tournament history. William Sellers of Montgomery Academy shot 64 in 2012 for the previous low round. Cornelius finished at 147, 11 strokes behind Mortimer Jordan junior Garrett Johnson.

Johnson followed Monday’s 69 with an even more impressive 67 to finish as low medalist with 8-under 136 – just three strokes off the state record of 133 set by Patrick Martin of Spain Park (2015), Brooks Rabren of Straughn (2015) and Robby Shelton of Dt. Paul’s (2013). Russellville senior Eli Hodges was second over at 3-undrr 141. He had a 70 Tuesday. CLASS 4A BOYS UMS-Wright won its 22 nd state golf championship since the Bulldogs’ first in 1971 with a two-day 598 total to claim the 4A title. Finishing second was Trinity Presbyterian 39 strokes back at 637. White Plains (641) and Oneonta (641) tied for third.

Coach Adam Boehm’s squad placed two golfers in the top three. Andrew Graves had a 1-over 73 Tuesday and Layton Bussey of White Plains shot a 2-under 70 as both finished 1-over 145 to tie for low medalist.

UMS-Wright’s J.P. Cave and Oneonta’s Stewart Miller each carded a 76 to finish tied for third at 148. Bussey’s 70 was the low round of the day in Class 4A. CLASS 3A BOYS Low medalist John Catanzaro of Westbrook Christian followed Monday’s blistering 66 with a 3-over 75 to finish at 3-under 141 for the tourney as Coach Edward Brookins’ Warriors won the 3A state title for the second year in a row with a 612 team total. William Wetherington shot even-par 72 for Westbrook’s best round and the only par or better round in the 3A competition Tuesday.

Indian Springs finished second with a 639, 26 strokes behind the winners. Bayside Academy (656) was third and Glencoe (660) was fourth. Jack Sims of Glencoe shot a 74 Tuesday to finish at 146 and claimed individual runner-up honors. CLASS 1A/2A BOYS Providence Christian shot 300 as a team Tuesday, one stroke better than Monday’s 301, and won the 1A/2A state championship by 25 strokes over runner-up Decatur Heritage (626).

Houston Academy (629) was third and Donoho (680), fourth. Thomas Ponder and Thomas Speigner each shot 1-over 73 Tuesday to lead the Eagles of Coach Emory Latta.

Ponder finished tied at 147 with Sam Murphy of Decatur Heritage and Spencer Arnold of St. Luke’s Episcopal as the trio finished nine strokes behind low medalist Ike Alexander of Mars Hill Bible.

The junior shot two straight rounds of 69 to wind up with a 6-under 138 for the 36 holes. The 69 was the fourth best round overall in the tournament Tuesday. CLASS 6A/7A GIRLS The ladies turned in another impressive day as four golfers shot even par or better.

Michaela Morard’s 70 gave her a 138 and one-stroke win over Athens’ Micheala Williams, who shot 3-under 69 to finish at 139. Fairhope senior Virginia Green closed out her impressive high school career with a 1-under 71 and two-day total 142 to finish third. For Huntsville, coached by Clifford Pate, the two-day total of 445 was just 13 strokes over par. The 21 girls in the 6A/7A field averaged just 78.97 collectively over the two days with four eagles, 78 birdies and 158 pars registered in all the rounds. The tournament was the 45 th for the girls in AHSAA history. CLASS 4A/5A GIRLS Coach Marcus Harrell’s White Plains girls shot 243-241—484 to win the state crown for the second year in a row.

Helena’s Grayson Gladden shot 2-under 70 for the best round of the competition and earned low medalist honors with a 3-over 147. CLASS 1A/3A GIRLS Westbrook Christian, coached by Misti Fairchild, made it sweep for the Warriors as the girls followed the boys to the winner’s circle. Last off the course Tuesday, Westbrook won the 1A/3A girls’ state championship with two consistent rounds. The Warriors shot 263 Monday and 264 Tuesday to finish at 527. Winfield was second 11 strokes back at 538. Bayside Academy was third at 576 and Clements (711) was fourth. First-day leader Jacksonville Christian’s Chloe Borders shot a low-round 81 Tuesday and won 1A/3A medalist honors with 15-over 159. She won by four strokes over Mars Hill Bible’s Hannah Pope (163), who shot an 82 Tuesday.

Ellie Porter was fourth overall for Westbrook recording rounds of 84-85 for 169. Bayside Academy’s Tori Roush shot an 83 Tuesday – bettering her Monday total (103) by 20 strokes and finished 10 th overall. HUNTSVILLE – Westbrook Christian junior John Catanzaro shot a 6-under 66 Monday to lead the individual field, and Spain Park High School blistered Hampton Cove Golf Club’s course for a 3-under team 285 Monday to turn in the best team score as the first round of the AHSAA 68 th annual Golf Championships concluded. Huntsville’s Hampton Cove, one of tourist favorites on the state’s Robert Trent Jones Trail, was no match for Catanzaro, who helped Westbrook build an 11-shot lead in Class 3A with a team 303. A host of golfers, including seven in Class 7A turned in par or better over the first 18 holes. The state championships will conclude Tuesday with the final round of the 36-hole tournament – with state champions to be crowned in six boys’ divisions and three girls divisions. Senior Thomas Luther led Coach Brian Carter’s Jaguars with a 3-under 69 – but held a slim 1-stroke lead over Auburn junior Addison Nix, who fired a 2-under 70.

Spain Park senior Conley Miller and sophomore Landon Carner shot 71 and 72 while sophomore Reed Hereford was 1-over at 73 to round out the Jags’ team total. Senior Harrison Mink of Oak Mountain and Vestavia Hills freshman Austin Coggin also shot a 70, followed by Mountain Brook senior Harlan Winn’s 71.

Fairhope trailed Spain Park by 12 strokes despite a solid 9-over 297 team total. Auburn was one stroke back at 298 and Vestavia Hills closed at 301. Mars Hill Bible junior Ike Alexander, Mortimer Jordan senior Garrett Johnson and Gulf Shores senior Matt Lorenz also carded 2-under 69’s in the first round Monday in Class 1A/2A, 5A and 6A, respectively. In the girls’ competition, eighth grader Michaela Morard shot the best round of the day, 4-under 68, to lead the girls’ 6A/7A competition. She won last year’s low medalist honors with a 7-under 137 total.

CLASS 3A BOYS Westbrook teammate Harrison Martin complemented Catanzaro’s 66 with an even-par 72 as the Warriors shot 303 – 15 over as a team. Indian Springs was second at 314, Bayside Academy followed with 331, and Glencoe was fourth at 338.

Chandler Pulliam of Indian Springs carded a 1-under 71, and Jack Sims of Glencoe shot an even par 72. CLASS 4A BOYS UMS-Wright shot 4-over 292 to hold a 20-stroke lead over Oneonta (312).

Trinity Presbyterian was third at 317 and White Plains fourth at 320. J.P Cave and Andrew Graves each shot even-par 72 for the Bulldogs from Mobile. Oneonta’s Stewart Miller and Colby Chaviers had 72 and 73, respective, and three others were two shots off the individual lead at 74. CLASS 5A BOYS St. Paul’s Episcopal of Mobile shot 7-over as a team to finish at 295, four strokes ahead of Russellville’s 299 total. Guntersville had 319 and Clay County, 331, to round out the team scoring.

Senior Garrett Johnson of Mortimer Jordan shot 3-under 69 to claim the first-day individual lead. Russellville senior Eli Hodges, who fired an AHSAA state-record tying 62 in section play two weeks ago, followed with a 1-under 71 to trail Johnson by two strokes.

Hodges’ senior teammate Triston Tubb, St. Paul’s sophomore Will McFadden and senior Noble Smith each carded even-par 72 and are just three strokes off the lead after 18 holes. CLASS 6A BOYS Spanish Fort shot 2-over as a team to close at 290 after round one and leads Class 6A heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes. Homewood was eight strokes back at 298, John Carroll Catholic was third at 314 and Chilton County was fourth at 331.

Five golfers were bunched at the top shooting par or better with senior Matt Lorenz of Gulf Shores finishing with a 3-under 69 to take the individual lead. Sophomore Padraic Sim of Spanish Fort was 2-under 70, Cullman senior Luke Wilson was two strokes back at 1-under 71, Homewood sophomore Jack Goldasich and Spanish Fort senior Charles Wood each followed at even-par 72. CLASS 6A/7A GIRLS Defending Class 6A/7A low medalist Michaela Morard turned in the low score of the day with a 4-under 68 and Huntsville shot 3-over as a team to take the first-day lead with a team 219 total. The top three scores are totaled in the girls’ competition.

Hoover was second after round one at 9-over 225, Spain Park shot 238 and Athens, 243. Morard, an eighth grader, holds a 2-stroke lead over Athens’ Micheala Williams, who fired a 2-under 70. Senior Virginia Green was three shots back with a 1-under 71, and Morard’s teammate Emily Lankford shot even par 72.

CLASS 4A/5A GIRLS Defending state champion White Plains shot a 27-over 243 to hold a 31-stroke lead over Demopolis in the 4A/5A division Monday. UMS-Wright also shot 277 and Russellville, 304. Trinity Presbyterian’s Sophie Burks had the low round with a 1-over 73. Anna Reid of Demopolis was three shots back at 76, Helena’s Grayson Gladden and Brooks’ Anna Fassnacht were four shots back at 77. Layne Dyar led White Plains with a first-day 79. CLASS 1A/3A GIRLS Jacksonville Christian’s Chloe Borders was the individual leader with 4-over 78. Mars Hill Bible’s Hannah Pope posted an 81 and Jordan Clark of Winfield fired an 83.

Westbrook Christian was the team leader after the first day with a 263. Winfield was 11 strokes back in second place at 274, followed by Bayside Academy (288) and Clements (371). Russellville senior Eli Hodges shot an AHSAA record-tying 62 Monday at Cullman’s Chelsey Oaks Golf Course to lead the Golden Tigers to the Class 5A, Section 4 boys’ golf championship. Hodges, who is heading to the University of North Alabama next fall, shot 32 on the front nine and 30 on the back nine – registering eight birdies and one eagle, which came on the par 4 11 th hole. Coach Ryan Brewer’s team finished 4-under 280 on the par-71 course. Senior Joshua Seal also shot 2-under 69, seventh grader Eric Boutwell had a 73 and senior Triston Tubb shot a 76 to round out the top four scores for Russellville. Hodges’ 62 tied the record round set by J.M.

The top four teams and next four individual golfers advance to the sub-state tournament next week. In other boys’ section golf action reported to the AHSAA this week: CLASS 7A, SECTION 1: John Racciatti’s 3-under 69 led McGill-Toolen to a 295 total and the Section 1 championship. Brent Wright also shot a 73 for the Yellow Jackets. Fairhope was second at 308.

Jack Henson of Fairhope and J. Michael Riley of Davidson also shot 75’s. CLASS 7A, SECTION 2: Auburn won the Section 2 team competition with a 297 total. Enterprise was second at 328. Low medalist honors were shared by Connor Newton and David Baker of Coach Billy Ramsay’s winning Tigers. Addison Nix also had a 2-over 74. Branson Francisco carded a 79 for the Wildcats’ best score.

CLASS 7A, SECTION 3: Conley Miller carded a 75 to lead Spain Park to the section team title by one stroke over Vestavia Hills. The Jaguars totaled 310 with Reed Hereford shooting 77, and Landon Conner shooting 78. Vestavia Hills shot a team 311 with Chris Hughes carding the best round of the day, an even par 72. Harlon Winn of Mountain Brook and Harrison Mink of Oak Mountain each shot a 75. CLASS 7A, SECTION 4: Grissom won the section title with a team 287 with Ryan Rutherford shooting a 68 to lead Coach Jake Moran’s Tigers.
