I can open the CS4 Flash program, but every time I try to create a new file or open an existing file the application unexpectedly quits. The problem goes away in a new user. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Didn't help I have tried deleting all preference files and application support files in my user, and the problem remains. I am having the same problem as well with Flash CS4 with opening files. This is disappointing since this is the first time I've used the program.

After doing more research and reading other posts I was able to correct my crashing Flash issue. It was indeed a font issue, as suggested by many other posts, though, my fix was somewhat different. I followed a post that suggested I read this Adobe article: regarding font problems. To repair the issue I did #6, booting in Safe Mode and then rebooted again in normal mode. This did nothing and Flash kept crashing as normal. It is apparently supposed to, 'Trash all font caches normally stored in Library Caches com.apple.ATS uid where uid is a user ID number such as 501'.

It didn't fix my problem at all, however, this did give me an idea that did end up working. I booted again in Safe Mode, then opened Flash, and the.fla file I wanted to work on. I was notified immediately by Flash that three fonts were not available. I assumed they could possibly be the culprit. (This was an easier place to start than sorting through my thousands of fonts one by one as others suggested) I decided to reset them to something standard like Helvetica, and saved out the.fla file with a new name. I rebooted in normal mode, opened Flash and then opened the new file I had just saved out in Safe Mode. Now it works perfectly.

Now for the strange part that I can't explain. I couldn't open any.fla files before I fixed this one file. Flash CRASHED every time on every.fla file. I fixed this one file and now they all work with no problems. Go figure.I'm sure that make sense in some alternative code universe.
